in this blog assignment I will be chosen the mission statements from two different universities in different countries, one from my home country “Jordan “and the other is in the united states. I will try to compare between the two statements and see the differences.
1- The university of Jordan, Amman, Jordan
It is considered as a public university that was established in 1962
Providing students with fulfilling learning experiences, conducting knowledge-generating research, and building firm societal ties, within an environment that is attractive and financially stable, and conducive to creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship.
Reading The university of Jordan mission statement, the first thing that have crossed my mind is that why I have never read it before, although I have obtained my undergraduate baccalaureate from this university in 2008.
knowing that Jordanian consider this university as one of the most prestigious and strong institute in the country due to its wide range of programs in both graduate and undergraduate and its advanced facilities, their mission statement is disappointed. Not only the weakness of its vision but the lack of a clear and strong explanation of what they aim and provide. They kept explaining the organizational structure and the administrative deputy but not a specific goal that this university aim to achieve.
Thus one of the sentences that was written and standout to me “constant process of assessing the standing of its academic programs” which is in my opinion is very essential to the academic development, as the programs in every university should follow the changing and recent demands of its users, the eager of the students for new and better programs and the availability of the current educators and professors to produce better quality and less un employments.
2- The university of Arizona, Tucson, Arizona
It is considered as a land-grant public university
We will continuously improve how we educate and innovate so we can lead the way in developing disruptive problem-solvers capable of tackling our greatest challenges.
The other mission statement is from the University of Arizona, “We’ve always been about Tomorrow” that is the big first sentence you see once you open the mission statement of this university. In my opinion this is a great starting makes you want to know how and in what way this tomorrow is been considered, continue through the statement they have shared some stories to back their mission and how to achieve it and it shows experience and long term sustainability, but what it made it all better is talking about improvement, by tackling challenges and problem solving and this shows great potential and flexibility. It is short, direct and up to the point and I consider it as a successful inviting statement. since i had my masters degree from this university, I feel that i might be bias towards it so i will be adding another statement from different university in the united states
